Two killed, four injured in Johor lorry crash

ANN/THE STRAITS TIMES – A tragic accident involving a group of eight Singaporean motorcyclists was reported yesterday morning in Johor, Malaysia. A lorry collided with all but one rider in their convoy, resulting in two fatalities and four severe injuries. Among the victims was Mohd Shahfiq Irman, the 2017 winner of the Malay talent show Anugerah.

The accident took place at the 114 kilometres of the North-South Expressway. According to Batu Pahat District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah, the motorcyclists were travelling from Singapore to Pagoh, Muar, for the morning meal before fasting during Ramadhan.

They had stopped at a rest stop in Yong Peng due to a flat tyre of one rider. A container lorry driven by a 33-year-old Malaysian man lost control and collided with the group, resulting in the deaths of Shahfiq and Mohd Firman Nordin, both 26 years. The four seriously injured riders were rushed to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar for treatment.
