Two individuals were each issued a BND100 compound fine by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) on October 15 for littering at a public parking lot near the Pasar Malam Gadong.
The offenders, identified as Haji Iring bin Mundim and Ali Akbar, were fined under Chapter 12(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021. They have seven days to settle the fine, failing which the case will be brought to court.
If convicted in court, the offenders face a fine ranging from BND1,000 to BND3,000 for the first offence. For subsequent offences, the penalty increases to a fine between BND3,000 and BND9,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. – DANIEL LIM
