MANILA (XINHUA) – Two people were killed, and two others injured after a van and a 10-wheeler delivery truck collided on a highway in Quezon province, south of Manila, police said.

Corporal Alexander Taburdan of the Calauag police told Xinhua that the head-on crash happened around 8am local time while the two vehicles were travelling along a highway in Calauag town on the main Luzon island.

“The van swerved to the other lane, colliding head-on with the oncoming truck,” Taburdan said in a telephone interview, speculating the driver might have fallen asleep.

Taburdan said the driver of the van and one of the two passengers died at the scene, and that the other passenger and the truck driver suffered injuries.

The crash heavily damaged the fronts of the van and the truck, Taburdan added.
