Two companies were slapped with BND1,000 compound fines by the Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office recently for illegally disposing rubbish in public areas, a violation under Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.
The offenders were given seven days to settle the fine. The failure to do so will see the case brought to court. If found guilty, the company may be fined between BND2,000 and BND10,000. For the second or subsequent offences, the company could face between BND10,000 and BND30,000 fine, imprisonment, or both. The agency also reminded the public, especially building owners and businesses, to maintain cleanliness of their environment. – James Kon
