Twenty Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) instructors from 10 Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) member states – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam – concluded a two-week course in robotics and smart systems as part of Technical Skills Upgrading Programme.
The programme was hosted and facilitated by the Institute of Technical Education, Education Services (ITEES) in collaboration with SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO VOCTECH) held from June 24 to July 5. The training exposed the participants to the fundamentals of robotics, smart systems, industrial and collaborative robotics programming. It emphasised practical and hands-on learning and was designed to allow trainees to apply the knowledge to their teaching practices and to enhance their skills and competencies.
SEAMEO VOCTECH Centre Director Haji Norjemee bin Jenek commended the strides made by Singapore in their use of new technology and its efforts to pass such knowledge throughout the region.
He said TVET curriculum should align with the needs of the industry especially in Industrial Revolution 4.0 and smart systems.
The closing and certificate presentation ceremony was held at ITE Central, Singapore on July 5. – Rokiah Mahmud
