Tutong’s pursuit of cleanliness

In 2023, the Tutong District Office increased its enforcement on violations of Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.

According to statistics from the district office, three individuals were slapped with compound fines amounting to BND300 while 58 companies were issued with compound fines totalling BND34,500 in 2023.

The issuance of compound fine saw a 190-per-cent increase compared to 2022 where three individuals were slapped with compound fines amounting to BND300 and 20 companies were levied with compound fines totalling BND4,300.

Stringent action by the district office is a proactive step to ensure Tutong is clean and comfortable for visitors in its bid to becomes the first choice of tourist destination.

Steps have also been taken to recognise individuals and companies for playing a vital role in keeping their premises clean under the jurisdiction of the Tutong District Office.

In 2022, two individuals and six companies received appreciation certificates for their efforts in maintaining cleanliness. Mukim and village consultative councils also play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness at the mukim and village levels. According to records from the Tutong District Office, 111 cleaning campaigns were organised in 2023 for the district. – James Kon
