Tutong’s foreign litterbugs fined

James Kon

Two foreigners – an Indonesian and Indian national – and one local company were levied with compound fines by the Tutong District Office Enforcement Unit for littering in public areas.

Both offenders were slapped with a compound fine of BND100 each while the local company was issued with a BND200 compound fine under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.

The compound fines must be settled within a seven-day period.

The failure to settle the fine by an individual will result in the case being forwarded to the courts.

If found guilty the individual will be imposed a fine of at least BND1,000 and not more than BND3,000 for the first offence and at least BND3,000 and not more than BND9,000, imprisonment of not more than six months or both for subsequent offences.

A corporate body failing to settle the fine within seven days, will be brought to court and can face a fine of BND2,000 and not more than BND10,000 for the first offence and a fine of at least BND10,000 and not more than BND30,000, imprisonment of not more than 12 months or both for subsequent offences.
