The Department of Town and Country Planning yesterday engaged the youth of Tutong District at Dewan Utama, Tutong Community Hall Complex on a programme promoting sustainable development.
Also present was Commissioner of Town and Country Planning Marsita binti Omar, in her capacity as chairperson of the event.
The event aimed to empower the youth in the district by enhancing their knowledge on the functions and roles of the department in promoting sustainable development as well as encouraging the exploration of creative methods to better the quality of life for all.
At the event, the youth were divided into four groups and given specific discussion topics, providing them with an opportunity to share their opinions on development issues in Pekan Tutong.
At the end of the session, each group presented the outcomes of their respective discussions, which included solutions and creative aspirations for future developments.
The agency hoped the ideas presented would open up opportunities for economic and social development, including recreational activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.
A comprehensive planning approach is required to achieve sustainable development, as it is essential to find a balance between economic, social, and environmental needs, said the agency.
“The sustainability of an area depends not only on efficient land-use planning, management, and control but also on positive support from all members of the community.”
In addition to the discussions, the Department of Town and Country Planning also held an exhibition on land-use planning to brief the youth on the various development plans for Tutong District. – Rokiah Mahmud
