Tutong youth have fruitful visit to Belait District

Forty youth and residents of Kampong Bukit and Kampong Long Maya in Mukim Ukong, Tutong District participated in an educational visit to places of interest in the Belait District to ensure a productive activity during the school holiday break.

Mohamad Subhi bin Haji Julaihi, who led the visiting group, hoped that the visit provided an exposure to the Mukim Ukong residents.

“We hope the participants will be inspired from the determination of these organisations to develop entrepreneurship or services through farming, culture and other practices.”

He added, “From these visits, we will be able to make the Kampong Ukong Village Consultative Council (MPK Ukong) Youth Bureau serve as a platform to jointly help village residents improve the economic development and ensure a better quality of life to realise the nation’s vision.”

The one-day-programme organised by the MPK Ukong Youth Bureau, covered visits to the Labi Coffee Farm and Mendaram Longhouse.

During their visit to the coffee farm, operated by Syarikat Pertanian Tropikal Utama, a business owned by Yong Khian Fook, participants got an insight on the processing techniques of making local coffee.

At the longhouse visit, participants strengthened ties with the longhouse residents and got up close and personal with the culture and heritage of the local community, handicrafts, traditional dance and costumes. – Lyna Mohamad
