Tutong families, children receive basic necessities, school supplies

The Brunei-US Association (BUSA), in collaboration with Brunei Locally Employed Staff Association (BLESA) of the US Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and Brunei Four Wheel Drive Association (BFWDA), organised the ‘Kasih Ramadhan’ drive in rural areas in the Tutong District.

Guests of honour Chargé d’Affaires Emily Fleckner and Public Affairs Officer Jeff Barrus from the US Embassy joined the drive.

Ten families and 20 children were selected from Kampong Kuala Ungar and Kampong Merimbun, coordinated by Acting Village Head Sani bin Nangkat.

The families received canned food, sacks of rice, condiments, dry noodles, cooking oil and other essentials. The children also received school supplies such as workbooks, drawing papers, geometrical instruments, scientific calculators and some colouring books.

“As the families struggle to meet their daily needs, priority is set to providing food on the table over educational needs.

“Limited access to educational supplies can hinder learning progress, too, as they need school supplies to complement their learning needs. Therefore the BUSA, BLESA and BFWDA teams believe that the small help can have a big impact on their educational needs, and hope that it will benefit their learning in the long run,” said BUSA President Sha, who is also an education officer.

BUSA also thanked Samima Sdn Bhd for its support in the ‘Kasih Ramadhan’ drive and the public for their educational contributions.
