Turn our beaches into tourist destinations

As Brunei seeks to grow its tourism industry, we should focus on our local beaches, which have great potential but remain underdeveloped. Competing with neighbouring countries in terms of shopping and entertainment requires immense resources. Instead, we should invest in something that is unique to us – our beautiful coastline.

With the right investments, these beaches can be transformed into top destinations for tourists. To ensure comfort and safety, we could build sea gates to prevent harmful marine animals from entering beach areas. Hiring internationally-recognised developers would allow us to redesign the beaches, upgrade the sand quality and make the spots more attractive.

In addition, given our climate, any new infrastructure should include air-conditioned spaces, such as a long strip of shops, restaurants with an amazing view of the sea and a designated area that can be turned into a flea market during weekends. By creating comfortable and weather-proof facilities, we could offer a great experience all year round.

A semi-government company could manage these developments, overseeing rental huts, barbeque spots and the overall maintenance of these beaches. By offering something unique to tourists, not only could we boost tourism but also stimulate the local economy.
