Tuition schools are not allowed to operate fully online as per the education act for private educational institutions, said Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, in response to a query by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad at the fourth day of the 18th LegCo session yesterday.

The LegCo member suggested that due to the current COVID-19 situation in the Sultanate, tuition schools should be allowed to operate online to provide more job opportunities for recent graduates and access to virtual education.

The minister, who said it was a good suggestion, added that the requirements are in place to protect students as consumers.

Tuition schools must have a physical presence to ensure quality education, said Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah.
