The sincerity and hospitality of postal staff in carrying out their duties is a pillar of success for the postal services, building trust between the service provider and customers. Trust is a core value that needs to be defended.
The importance of friendliness and honesty of postal staff to customers was highlighted by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha in his message yesterday for World Postal Day.
“World Postal Day is celebrated every October 9 by the Universal Post Union (UPU) to recognise the role of post in daily life for people and businesses, as well as in contributing to social development and the global economy,” the minister said.
“Post is a method of communication that is inclusive and connects the community,” the minister added.
”In building trust on postal services, improvement needs to be made and with any gap in public expectations taken into account.”
This year’s theme ‘Together for trust: Collaborating for a safe and connected future’, was chosen to appreciate the trust build through the commitment and persistence demonstrated by postal service providers in fulfilling their duties honestly and safely.
The minister said, “It is also a reminder to prepare for innovative and adaptable postal services in accordance with the times, to remain relevant and capable to support e-commerce, e-government and e-finance services.”
He added that the drafting of Postal Service Order 2023 will enable postal services to be corporatised to catalyse a postal industry that is effective and competitive as well as allowing high investment in technology.
This effort “is in line with the Abidjan Postal Strategy 2021 – 2025, which urges regulatory authorities to coordinate and improve the harmony of the postal sector towards the country’s socio-economic development efforts”.
Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary said, “The Express Mail Services Customer Service Award that the Department of Postal Services received this year is a sign that we are able to provide excellence services.
“To continue to excel requires a customer-centric approach, high commitment and effort by all involved. Let us work together to enable everyone to gain access and benefit from both digital and physical postal services.”
He added, ”I believe that postal staff will always be ready and be adaptable for any changes.” – James Kon
