(ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – The 21st Korean Music Awards have unveiled their winners, with the spotlight shared between K-pop sensation NewJeans and the rock ensemble Silica Gel, each securing three awards.
Beenzino stood out by claiming the Album of the Year title with “Nowitzki,” marking a significant moment as the first hip-hop artist in eight years to achieve this honor.
Held at Prism Studio in the heart of southern Seoul, the ceremony saw NewJeans capturing the Song of the Year and Best K-pop Song awards for “Ditto,” in addition to being honored with the Best K-pop Album award for “Get Up.”
This follows their impressive haul of three awards the previous year, highlighting their continued success in the industry.
Silica Gel continued their dominance in the modern rock category, securing the Best Modern Rock Song award for an impressive third consecutive year.
Their achievements didn’t stop there, as they also took home the Musician of the Year and Best Modern Rock Album awards, with both their albums “Machine Boy” and “Tik Tak Tok” released last year, earning acclaim for their distinctiveness and quality.
Beenzino’s victory not only underscored his album’s impact but also saw him winning in the Best Rap & Hip-Hop Album category with “Nowitzki.”
The Rookie of the Year award was presented to Kiss of Life, a four-member multinational girl group, marking their promising start in the music industry.
