A man facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer and committing mischief appeared in court yesterday, with the trial dates yet to be fixed.
Prosecutor Kamal Ariffin bin Ismail’s charges allege Mohd Nazree bin Mohd Salleh, 43, of voluntarily causing hurt to a 26-year-old police officer.
The incident is said to have occurred on August 17, when the defendant allegedly reversed his vehicle, trapping the officer between the car door and the garage wall while the officer was conducting a lawful investigation.
If convicted, Mohd Nazree could face imprisonment for up to five years and whipping for the charge under Section 332 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22).
In a separate charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code, the defendant is accused of causing wrongful damage to a vehicle on August 15.
The vehicle, belonging to a person sustained BND1,800 in damages after the defendant allegedly broke the brake light using his left elbow.
The charge also carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and no less than two strokes of whipping.
Mohd Nazree earlier denied both charges. Magistrate Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman adjourned the case to September 14 to fix trial dates. – Fadley Faisal
