Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Brunei planted 100 saplings yesterday at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park to mark the 65th anniversary of its establishment in the Sultanate.
The activity participated by over 50 bank employees began early in the morning and was part of the bank’s voluntary activities to contribute to a positive impact on the environment. The activity was organised in partnership with Atmosphere and the Forestry Department.
SCB Brunei Chief Executive Officer Pengiran Aki Ismasufian bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim said the bank as a franchise is grateful to be a part of the growth and development of Brunei, serving its people and being part of the fabric of the nation. As a global bank, Standard Chartered is committed to sustainable social and economic development though its business, operations and communities, he said.
The 100 saplings planted yesterday contributed towards Brunei’s Green Protocol to increase the Sultanate’s forest cover of 500,000 trees by 2035.
Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, the guest of honour, and Pengiran Aki Ismasufian planted Cinnamomum Iners saplings.
Brunei Darussalam Central Bank Managing Director Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Badar, Head of the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat Ahmad Zaiemaddien bin Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi and SCB Brunei Chief Financial Officer Annie Ng planted Peltophorum Pterocarpum saplings.
SCB Brunei staff planted Hopea Odorata saplings. All saplings planted are native to Brunei and will be monitored to ensure good survival rate.
