Treat awaits local football lovers

Local football fans are in for a treat when DPMM FC meet English Premier League (EPL) Legends in an exhibition game of the imagine Football Fiesta at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium tonight.

EPL Legends from Manchester United and Liverpool such as Dimitar Berbatov, Luis Garcia, Patrik Berger, Wes Brown, Emile Heskey and Vladimir Smicer are expected to take to the field against DPMM FC.

In a press conference yesterday at Peak Club, Club Licensing Manager of DPMM FC Mohammad Helme bin Panjang said, “I expect our team will perform well against the legends. We hope to play a better game compared to the loss against Selangor FC in the KUSEL Asia Challenge 2024.”

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown said, “We appreciate holding the football clinic for the kids. About 10 kids asked if I play with Ronaldo and do I have his number. We can see that the children have a passion for football. With a lot of practice and help from coaches, they can become very good players. Brunei is a place I have never been before. I am looking forward to the game. I know that we will be playing a younger team and will be a difficult match up.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool FC winger Luis Garcia highlighted the chemistry of the team despite the rivalry of Manchester United and Liverpool. “It’s a pleasure to be in Brunei, we have a lot of chances to get to know each other despite being rivals. It is an honour to be part of an amazing team with so many talents. We are here to inspire the young footballers who are important for us.”

Meanwhile, Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Haji Feisal bin Haji Eusoff Patail said, “I am very passionate with football and it’s a very healthy engagement to host the clinic. We are currently in the process of getting football in the right place, therefore having a grassroots event and working continuously with the EPL Legends and professionals, can inspire football in Brunei to go further.” – James Kon
