Cooperation and capacity building are essential to enhance expertise and improve the effective implementation of the Competition Act in Brunei Darussalam, said Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam (CCBD) Chairman Haji Abdullah Soefri bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

He said this during a training session on the Competition Act organised by CCBD recently, aimed to enhance the understanding and enforcement of competition law in the Sultanate.

The training session was delivered by two senior officials from the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS), Group Director for Law and Enforcement Winnie Ching and Director for Enforcement Serene Seet, who shared their expertise and insights on competition law enforcement and best practices from their experience in Singapore.

The session underscores the CCBD’s ongoing efforts to develop the capacity of its enforcement officers and stakeholders, ensuring effective competition to promote transparency, fairness and consumer welfare in the landscape of the Sultanate’s economy.

The Competition Act was introduced in 2015 to promote fair competition and prevent anti-competitive practices in the market. It aims to ensure that businesses operate on a level playing field, fostering innovation and benefiting consumers through competitive pricing and improved quality of goods and services.
