Tracing nation’s history at 39th National Day celebration

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) held the 39th National Day celebration at the Main Conference Hall, International Convention Centre yesterday.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was present.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, and Deputy Permanent Secretary Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang also participated.

The event began with the recitation of Al-Quran by a member of Al-Quran Reading Scheme for Teenagers (STAR) at the Islamic Education Institute Mohd Ihtifazhuddin bin Suhaili, followed by the singing of the national anthem.

Director of Islamic Studies Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar also delivered welcoming remarks.

The highlight of the event was a discussion titled ‘Tracing the History of the Nation: Significant Episodes’ delivered by the Principal of History Centre at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong.

Among the topics discussed were the ‘History of the Formation of the Constitution’, ‘Signing of the Brunei State Constitution Agreement’, ‘The Challenge of Independence’ and several important events that led to the Sultanate achieving her full independence.

The ceremony also saw a poetry recital entitled ‘Independent Peace and Prosperity’ by religious teacher undergraduate at Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Sinnadatul Bibiana binti Ali. KUPU SB students also recited Selawat Tafrijiyyah.

The event continued with a presentation titled ‘Knowledge as the Foundation for the Success of Brunei Vision 2035’ by Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious School (SUAMPRIPAHS) students. The event aimed to strengthen cooperation among MoRA staff and instill patriotic spirits.
