Towards a more sustainability-conscious nation

The inaugural Sustainable Future Forum in Brunei Darussalam convened at Radisson Hotel on Tuesday under the theme “Mission Possible: Sustainable in Action”.

Chairman of the Forum’s Lead Partner Baiduri Bank, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah In his scene-setting opening remarks, emphasised the urgency of taking practical steps and actions toward a more sustainability-conscious nation.

He highlighted that sustainability is also Brunei’s focus in the National Vision 2035. “We have a forward-looking vision whereby many areas are very much aligned with our development and goals that are very much attached to it,”

“The population is well-educated, with a highly skilled workforce with the quality of life, dynamic and stable economy.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Dr Abdul Fattaah also said that in business, there is an increased emphasis on a balance between making profits and sustainability. “This can be seen from the corporate setting, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and environmental aspect,” he added.

Some 150 people gathered during the forum, comprising corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and students representing various industries and institutions in the country.

The program facilitated a dialogue on how various stakeholders in sustainability can work together to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
