A 32-person tour group from Taiwan experienced the unique culture of a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the home of local Malay entrepreneurs Haji Samir and Hajah Surayati on Saturday.

Haji Samir and Hajah Surayati run a well-known local restaurant.

The tourists were able to sample local delicacies and Raya cakes, as well as understand the significance of Raya celebration. The group shared, “We feel privileged to personally experience Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities and the unique open house concept in Brunei. We were delighted to taste so many local cuisines and cakes.”

They added, “We can feel the warmth and closeness of people within the community, regardless of religion and race.

“Bruneians are very friendly and treat us like longtime friends. Visiting local Muslim families taught us more about the Islamic culture. It will be a memorable tour.” – James Kon
