Total trade grew 10.8pc in February, says JPES

Brunei Darussalam’s total trade was valued at BND2.4055 billion in Febuary 2024, growing by 10.8 per cent, compared to January 2024, said the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy in a statement yesterday.

They added that the total saw contributions from exports valued at BND1.5473 billion and imports at BND858.2 million.

The major exports comprised mineral fuels (77.7 per cent), chemicals (20.8 per cent) and machinery and transport equipment (0.8 per cent). The main export markets were Australia (22.4 per cent), China (18.2 per cent) and Singapore (13.9 per cent).

Meanwhile, the three main imports by commodity were mineral fuels (75.4 per cent), machinery and transport equipment (7.7 per cent) and food (5.0 per cent). The largest import partners were Malaysia (39.7 per cent), with mineral fuels as the main import commodity, followed by China (9.1 per cent) and Indonesia (5.0 per cent), with mineral fuels, food and machinery and transport equipment as the main import commodity.

Among the imports, 62 per cent was used for intermediate goods for processing, followed by capital goods (35.5 per cent) for business operations and consumption goods (2.5 per cent) for household use.

On transport, 96.8 per cent of trade was delivered by sea, 2.6 per cent by air and 0.6 per cent by land.
