Compassion is the heart of nursing, transforming care from a routine task into a healing experience by enabling healthcare professionals to connect with patients, understand their fears, and providing comfort, Chief Executive Officer of JPMC College of Health Sciences Sdn Bhd (JCHS) Chung Yea Fui said.
She said this during the 2nd Completion Ceremony for graduates of JCHS yesterday. She also acknowledged the hard work, dedication, resilience, and determination that led each graduate to the celebration.
“The day wasn’t just about celebrating what they have accomplished so far but also a reminder of the values that will shape the kind of nurse they will become,” she added.
This year’s theme highlights three fundamental values in the nursing journey: commitment, compassion, and excellence.
“Commitment forms the foundation of their profession, nurturing the future of healthcare.
Nurses must be fully dedicated to their roles, unwavering in their pursuit of knowledge, and steadfast in their support for patients in every circumstance.”
“As you move forward, remember that commitment means showing up every day ready to give your best, not only for yourselves but also for those who will depend on you,” she urged.
Nurses will encounter individuals at some of their most vulnerable moments, and it is their compassion that will reassure, instil hope, and remind patients they are not alone.
The pursuit of excellence involves continuously striving to improve, learn, and elevate the standard of care provided. In the ever-evolving field of healthcare, excellence requires adaptability, critical thinking, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Themed ‘Nurturing the Future of Healthcare: Commitment, Compassion, and Excellence’, the ceremony took place at a hotel in Berakas. Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad was the guest of honour. Clinical Nurse Specialist (Educator) at Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) Dr Karpagam Chakkaravarthy was also present. Dr Chakkaravarthy shared insights from her extensive background in nursing and academic leadership and encouraged graduates to embrace the challenges and opportunities awaiting them in the healthcare sector.
The ceremony also featured a speech by Nur Athirah Muti’ah binti Haji Hamdilah, a JPMC scholar and class representative, who urged her peers to carry forward the values of resilience and growth as they embark on their professional journeys.
