Top karatekas receive awards

Top young martial arts athletes received awards after competing in the BSRC Wadokai Karate Tournament 2023 at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) on Sunday.

Sixty-five competed in the tournament across 25 categories.

Md Amni Danial bin Md Khairul Azmi won the Best of the Best for Male Kumite six to nine years old, while Siti Alya Zafirah binti Md Zulkamain was named the best for the Female Kumite category 10-13 years. Awangku Md Abdul Qawi bin Pengiran Haji Zainal bagged the best awards for Male Kumite Cadet, Junior and Senior categories.

Additionally, two awards for the best male and female athlete were also handed to Awangku Md Ammar Ar Raaziqin and Nur Qaisara Damia binti Md Khairul.

Winner Awangku Md Abdul Qawi, who is still a student, said he was proud of his achievement and shared that time management is important to meet his ambition.

“Overall, I am quite satisfied with the outcome and I hope that I will be able to compete in more tournaments in the future,” he said.

The tournament was organised by BSRC in collaboration with the Wadokai Karate Brunei Darussalam, and support from the Brunei Darussalam Karate Federation (BRUKAF).

President of Wadokai Karate Brunei Darussalam Shihan Haji Sayed Jefferydean bin Haji Sayed Mohammed said the tournament aimed to promote the art of Wadokai Karate.

He was pleased with the young karatekas performances and hopes to see them in the Wadokai Open Championship in August.
