BANGKOK (ANN/THE NATION) – Superlek Kiatmoo9, reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion, is set to defend his title against Elias Mahmoudi in the main event of ONE Fight Night 18 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok on January 13.
Following a remarkable 2023 campaign with five consecutive victories, including a kickboxing world title win over Daniel Puertas and a successful defence against Danial Williams, “The Kicking Machine” aims to continue his dominance.
Superlek has also strengthened his position at the pinnacle of Muay Thai rankings with three victories in his native discipline.
His latest notable bout occurred in September 2023, a contender for the “fight of the year” against fellow Thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Despite emerging victorious on the scorecards, the 28-year-old was disqualified from claiming the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title as he failed to make weight.
Nevertheless, the memorable victory extended Superlek’s overall win streak to 10.
Now, in his return to the kickboxing realm, he will have to turn away a young and hungry challenger to keep his run going.
Mahmoudi came close to winning the gold in 2019 when he came out on the wrong end of an ultra-close technical decision against then-flyweight kickboxing king Petchdam Petchyindee.
“The Sniper” then rebounded with a dominant victory over Thai legend Lerdsila Phuket Top Team later that year.
The explosive Algerian was last in action this past August when he dispatched former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title challenger Edgar Tabares with three knockdowns inside the first round.
The full ONE Fight Night 18 card has yet to be announced.
