Since the ban on plastic bags in supermarkets, the populace has embraced the habit of bringing along reusable bags for grocery shopping. It is testament that our green initiative is heading in the right direction.
However, I have noticed over the years that there are a small number of people who are not fully on board with the campaign.
They would show up at supermarkets without a bag in hand, and at checkout, ask for a reusable bag. They would also frequent convenient stores as these places have thus far been spared from the plastic mandate.
As such, I would like to call on authorities to consider banning plastic bags in all business premises nationwide to drive home the message that there’s a pressing need to address the growing issue of plastic pollution.
