Time for collective action against climate change

With all the news reports on climate change, it is a crisis that we can try to ignore but eventually, we will all have to face up to. It is thus high time for the authorities to take seriously the threat of our times and campaign for collective action to reduce our carbon footprint.

Compared to a decade ago, installing solar panels at home is no longer a pipe dream. It is affordable for as long as we understand what benefits we can get from them in the long run.

For a start, it would lower our electricity bills. Some may say that the maintenance cost would offset whatever money we save. While it may be true for now due to its fringe status in the country, I’m sure the cost would go down once more people sign up for it.

With the advent of social media, it is trendy to talk sustainability and green drive without much action. Take the zero-plastic initiative. We bring our reusable bags to the supermarket but we don’t think twice about ordering a bottle of mineral water in the restaurant.

We need solutions to climate change, and we need them now. Pockets around the world are already seeing unprecedented heatwaves and peculiar weather anomalies. If no meaningful action takes place now, we are essentially doing a disservice to the next generations, who are counting on us to ensure they have a liveable planet in the future.
