Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC) yesterday hosted a courtesy visit by Vice-President of China Han Zheng, at its Muara Port terminal as part of a wider programme of engagements in the Sultanate.

The event highlighted the growing collaboration between Brunei and China, with a focus on logistics, trade and port operations.

Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy and MPC Board member Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, welcomed the vice-president alongside the Chief Executive Officer of Beibu Gulf Holding (Brunei) Sdn Bhd and Chief Financial Officer of MPC, accompanied by the management team.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions to strengthen ties between the two nations. The vice-president also toured the Cruise Ship Terminal and its gallery, which showcases Muara Port’s role in regional tourism and maritime sectors.

The vice-president observed operations at the terminal, gaining insight into Brunei’s expanding logistics infrastructure.

A key highlight was the tour of the rice and sugar warehouses, where the newly introduced Mobile Intelligent Nitrogen Filling Control Management System was demonstrated. The system, developed by Guangxi Sinograin Storage Apparatus Science and Technology Co Ltd, aims to enhance the storage and preservation of essential commodities in Brunei.

The innovative technology underscores Brunei’s commitment to food security and supply chain efficiency.

The visit reinforced the ongoing collaboration between Brunei and China, with Muara Port playing a strategic role in economic, trade, and logistical connectivity. The partnership supports the development of Brunei’s maritime sector and aligns with both nations’ goals to foster regional cooperation and growth.

“MPC remains committed to advancing its role as a leading port in the region,” it said in a statement. – Lyna Mohamad
