Ties strengthened as minister visits Turkiye

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad who visited Turkiye from May 23 to 25, exchanged views and explored potential areas of cooperation with Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkin Bak and Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Dr Serdar Çam to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit was a follow-up of memorandum of understanding between His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government and the Turkish government on cultural cooperation and protocol on cooperation between the National Archives of the Sultanate and the Directorate of State Archives of the Presidency of Turkiye on March 7, 2023 during the state visit of His Majesty on March 6 to 9, 2023. Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi also visited several historical sites in Ankara and Istanbul to observe preservation and conservation efforts.

Among the sites were Anitkabir and Ethnography Museum in Ankara; Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and Istanbul Archaeological Museum in Istanbul. The minister also visited the Sultanahmet Mosque and Camlıca Mosque as well as the Directorate of State Archives in Istanbul.

Accompanying the minister was Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan and Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to Turkiye Noni Zurainah binti Haji Ismi. – James Kon
