Thunderball Temburong marked a historic chapter after winning their first ever championship at the Brunei Men’s Netball League 2024 on Sunday.
In the final match, Thunderball defeated Belait Cardinals 62-31 at Maraburong Court in Tutong District.
The league was held over three consecutive Sundays, from September 29 to October 13.
Founder of the Brunei Men’s Netball League Izzat Reeza hopes that men’s netball in the Sultanate will continue to flourish and gain recognition, both locally and internationally.
Thunderball’s Abdun Ayub was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the first week, followed by Saidi Sahrol in the second week and Hanayaseen in the final week.
Saidi Sahrol was also named Player of the Year, while Hanayaseen claimed Best Shooter of the Season title.
Thunderball captain Anaqi Danish Asahrin said he hopes the team could emulate their winning momentum next year as the defending champion, and emphasised the importance of strengthening players’ mentality and teamwork, qualities he believes are essential in maintaining success in future competitions.
As Thunderball Temburong gear up to defend their title in 2025, the team’s victory not only marks the pinnacle of their achievements but also sets the stage for a bright future for men’s netball in the Sultanate.
Temburong District will host the men’s league next year. Head representatives of Temburong Irwanshah Zulkifli and Azri Tahir received the hosting trophy. – James Kon
