Thumbs up for solar energy

The Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office welcomes the installation of solar panels at residential houses and buildings to facilitate and encourage wider use of solar energy said Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid during yesterday’s 19th Legislative Council session.

The minister was representing Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof yesterday.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda said there are about 20 companies supplying solar panels as well as offering installation services. At the moment, 40 private residences have been installed with solar energy, he said.

The minister also noted that the Department of Electrical Services has provided temporary solar facilities for around 90 houses in remote areas, while the programme to provide more supply of electricity in rural areas is being carried out. “Under the 11th National Development Plan, projects in further improving electricity supply networks in Sukang and Melilas is expected to be completed by end of this year,” he said.
