Three killed in Indonesian landslides

JAKARTA (XINHUA) – Three people died and some roads were closed in landslides in Lumajang regency in Indonesia’s East Java province on Friday.

The three victims, who belong to a family, were found buried in the kitchen or bedroom of their house, Patria Dwi Hastiadi, the head of the Lumajang disaster management agency, said. The heavy rains triggered landslides at some points, blocking road access.

The authorities deployed excavators to reopen the closed roads, but the emergency response had to be stopped temporarily due to subsequent landslides.
