Three companies fined for improper rubbish disposal

James Kon

Three local companies were slapped with compound fines by the Tutong District Office for violating the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021 for disposing rubbish in public areas.

Two companies were issued BND500 compound fines, while the other received a BND200 compound fine.

The companies are required to settle the compound fine within seven days.

The failure to do so will result in the matter being brought to court. If found guilty, the offender can face a fine of between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence. For a subsequent offence, the offender may face a fine of between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both. The Tutong District Office reminded the public that it is their civic duty to maintain the cleanliness of public spaces.
