SEOUL (Bernama-Yonhap) – Hyundai Motor Co and two other carmakers will voluntarily recall over 600,000 vehicles due to faulty components, South Korea’s transport ministry said on Thursday, according to Korean news agency Yonhap.
The three companies, including Kia Corp and GM Korea, are recalling a combined 607,502 units of 10 different models, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said.
The recall was prompted by design errors in the airbag control unit, affecting 312,744 units of two Hyundai models, including the Sonata sedan, and 285,327 units of two Kia models, including the Forte.
A total of 8,592 units of Kia’s EV9 model are also being recalled due to a software error in the electronic brake system.
Additionally, 839 vehicles across three models, including the Escalade, imported and sold by GM Korea, are undergoing corrective measures, also due to a software error in the electronic brake system.
