The Sultanate yesterday welcomed the arrival of the Oceania Insignia cruise ship at the Cruise Ship Centre, Muara Port.

The Oceania Insignia departed from the port of origin in Miami, Florida, carrying 554 passengers.

The Oceania Insignia is the third ship making its port of call in Brunei Darussalam, according to the Tourism Development Department.

Most of the cruise passengers joined exclusive tours to several places of interest in the Sultanate including Tamu Kianggeh, Kampong Ayer, Royal Regalia Museum, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex and the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.

Some passengers stayed back at the Cruise Ship Centre to enjoy the local products and handicrafts offered by micro, small and medium enterprises.

Throughout the tours, several cruise ship passengers spoke about their experiences exploring the country.

Kevin from California, United States (US) said the short stay was interesting after learning about the beautiful culture and heritage of Brunei Darussalam, adding that the warm hospitality from locals intrigued him, leading him to consider a visit in the future.

Margo Hampton, also from the US, shared about the unique experience of tasting local cuisine at Kampong Ayer.

She was also delighted to see the Royal Exhibit at the Royal Regalia Museum and said she is looking forward to future opportunities to visit other national museums to learn more about the culture of Brunei.

The arrival of international cruise ships raises hope that Brunei Darussalam will be able to establish itself as a must-visit destination due to the rich cultural heritage, culinary delights and pristine forests.

The Sultanate will welcome three more cruise ships this year, with the Norwegian Jewel expected on November 6.
