The Magistrate’s Court on Saturday handed a two-months’ jail sentence to a local woman for theft.
Prosecutor Ahmad Firdaus bin Mohammad revealed in court that Sari Wahyuni binti Ahmadhizamshah, 22, was a former employee at a cafe in Panaga.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid heard that the defendant went to the cafe in Panaga to meet her friends where she still worked at the branch at 9pm on March 6.
Sometime later, all friends of the defendant had gone home except the assistant outlet manager, who was seated at a table in the function room, counting the daily proceeds of sale of the branch.
He was also accompanied by the defendant, seated across the table. The complainant briefly got up and left the defendant. Having repeatedly checked her surroundings and on confirming that nobody could see her, the defendant quickly grabbed the envelope containing money on the table and took out BND200. She left the premises along with the cash.
Police investigations the following morning revealed the victim being told by the management of the branch that the daily proceeds of sale from the previous day was short by BND200. The general manager checked the CCTV and came across a footage showing the defendant taking out cash from the envelope containing the daily proceeds, the previous day.
A police report was lodged leading to the defendant’s arrest. – Fadley Faisal
