A number of papers outlining the importance of supplication and repentance were presented during the first day seminar of the Knowledge Convention 2023 yesterday.

The seminar panels comprised experts in Islamic knowledge and education in Brunei Darussalam, and discussed the symposium theme, ‘Nationwide Munajat With Repentance’.

The first paper, ‘Repentance as a Catalyst for Peace of Heart: An Analytical Study of Dimensions’, was presented by Dean of the Faculty of Syariah and Law at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Zulkifly bin Muda.

The paper outlined the concept of repentance, its dimensions and the driving factor for its practice.

Another paper, ‘Supplication and repentance, spiritual closeness and its significance’, was presented by Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan’s senior assistant professor Dr Haji Harapandi bin Dahri. The paper highlighted practices during supplication, including reflecting on sins, expressing regret, seeking forgiveness, and expressing one’s needs to Allah the Almighty.

The paper outlined that supplication and repentance are two crucial concepts in Islam closely related to each other.

“When someone engages in supplication as part of repentance, they create an opportunity to reflect on their mistakes, seek forgiveness from Allah the Almighty, and reaffirm their commitment to live a better life in accordance with religious teachings,” according to the paper.
