Single mother Sanisah binti Saumai expressed gratitude to Allah the Almighty for being selected as one of the recipients for sacrificial meat distributed by Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) yesterday.
The widower and mother to three teenagers said institutions such as BRC are exemplary in giving back to the community and looking after the well-being of the less fortunate in the country.
Shahminan bin Abdul Razak from Kampong Subok, who represented his wife at the event, expressed gratitude to the BRC for selecting them for the second time this year.
The father of three, who works odd jobs to sustain the family, said “As we all know, the Sultanate is seeing rising food prices, including meat in the market. My family and I do not have the privilege to serve meat on our table. Alhamdulillah, with this donation we will get to enjoy beef dishes.”
The ceremony was organised by the office of the BRC Vice President at BRC headquarters in Kampong Bunut.
BRC President Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussoff bin Pengiran Haji Bahar handed over the meat to recipients.
Also present were BRC Honorary member Haji Mohd Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah and BRC Vice President Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Ibrahim.
Six cows were slaughtered for the ceremony, and the meat distributed to 150 poor and destitute from converts families through the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) and to 50 asnaf families by Malam Minggu Pusat Belia volunteers.
Ninety asnaf families, including 40 registered under BRC, and BIBD ALAF students also received the sacrificial meat.
The annual event aims to express gratitude for all the blessings from Allah the Almighty while fostering ties and encouraging a spirit of cooperation.
