Ten operators have sighed up on as industrial partners to the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) Apprenticeship Scheme, which aims to elevate health and safety standards in the Sultanate.
Representatives of the 10 operators signed the agreement during a ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday.
Deputy Minister (Security and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu joined Head of Manpower Planning and Employment Council Secretariat and officials at the event as the guest of honour.
“The SHENA Apprenticeship Scheme is a programme that runs for 24 months. It is a contribution from the i-Ready programme under JobCentre Brunei.
“The scheme aims to ready a skills pool required by the industry in Brunei,” Acting Interim Chief Executive Officer of SHENA Haji Junit bin Haji Zakaria said in his welcoming remarks.
“The Apprenticeship Scheme is one of the platforms to prepare and equip apprentices with related job experience and obtain practical skill and then provide them with a path to becoming registered workplace safety and health officers.
“SHENA welcomed its first intake of 10 apprentices under the scheme. Today, we continue our path to further expand and strengthen SHENA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of industry leaders,” he added.
He continued, “Today’s ceremony is also significant because we are working together to produce quality and skilled as well as future ready human resources.”
Haji Junit also urged selected apprentices under the scheme to take advantage of the opportunity and take positive steps in helping to realise the country’s aspiration as a safe place to work and live.
The operators that signed on to the Apprenticeship Scheme are: the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam; Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd; Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd; TotalEnergies EP (Brunei) BV; Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd; Muara Maritime Services Sdn Bhd; Berakas Power Company Sdn Bhd; Unified National Network Sdn Bhd; imagine Sdn Bhd; and Progresif Sdn Bhd.
The scheme is devised to cultivate top-tier health and safety officers in the Sultanate.
With the inauguration of the first intake 12 months ago, the current i-Ready apprentices have already been placed in different functions at SHENA.
For the next 12 months, they will continue their apprenticeship with industrial assignments to the selected operators, ensuring fast track development and hands on experience with the real world. – James Kon
