Temburong District emerged overall winners of the cengkak asli and kuntau categories after collecting two gold medals, three silver and three bronze in the National Pencak Silat Championship in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Saturday.
In the individual category, Md Nizamuddin Mukminin bin Fairulman of the Belait team won the cekak asli shield while Md Zulkarnain of the Temburong team was honoured with the kuntau shield. The two pencak silat exponents won gold in the men’s adults category.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdul Aziz bin Haji Ismail of Temburong claimed silver in the cekak asli category, while Afiq Aiman bin Haji Aine and Muhammad Syafiq bin Sufri shared bronze.
Syafiq bin Kamis of Belait took silver in the kuntau category, followed by Arrsyafaiq bin Hassan of the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council and Yashntsazwan bin Yalim of Tutong with joint bronze.
Other winners included Md Izzammuddin bin Muhd Taha of Tutong in Class ‘A’ (45-50kg) category; Muhd Dyaulrahman bin Md Jafni of Temburong in Class ‘B’ (50-55kg); and Md Fazle Abd Rahim bin Sabtu of Temburong in Class ‘H’ (80-85kg).
Indonesia’s Aceh team won the tanding category after collecting five gold medals and one silver.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Wadood Bolkiah bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz presented the prizes.
At the end of the finals, an individual performance was held showcasing the art of pencak silat.
The event continued with a march-past of the participating contingents into the arena.
