Temburong District recipients expressed delight and happiness after being bestowed kurnia peribadi (personal gifts) of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at a ceremony in Belalong Hall, Community Hall Complex in Pekan Bangar yesterday.
His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel represented His Majesty to distribute kurnia peribadi to 901 recipients comprising the underprivileged and individuals with different abilities.
Apoi bin Riong, a 94-year-old resident with hearing-impairment was one such recipient.
His granddaughter said this was his second time to have received the personal gift of His Majesty, and is delighted to have been bestowed the honour once again.
Ating bin Juing from RPN Kampong Rataie said it was his sixth time receiving the kurnia peribadi. “I am thankful to the monarch who is concerned about the welfare of the people,” he said, adding that it helps the underprivileged prepare for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Jamelia binti Pudin, a mother of two, shared it is their fourth time receiving kurnia peribadi.
“It will help us buy food and daily necessities for the festive season,” she said.
Orphans Norul Najibah from Kampong Sumbiling Baru and Norifatul Aqilah from Kampong Puni said they look forward to buying new colourful Raya clothes. “It’s a tradition for Muslim children to get new clothes for this festivity, which brings cheer and joy. We are grateful to receive the kurnia.” – Azlan Othman
