Two separate attempts to smuggle contraband into Temburong District were foiled by enforcement authorities yesterday.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said a joint patrol of Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces discovered a suspicious vehicle abandoned at the junction of Jalan Bekarut around 10.35pm. The vehicle was found to have several boxes wrapped in black packaging, which were found to have contained 140 bottles and 816 cans of alcohol as well as 50 carton of cigarettes during an examination at the Bangar Police Station.

Meanwhile, Bangar Police Station personnel on a crime prevention patrol in Kampong Bekarut found several suspicious black plastic boxes in a bushy area near Kuala Sungai Bekarut at 11pm. Police personnel found 100 bottles and 384 cans of alcohol as well as 100 cartons of cigarettes after the packages were brought back to the Bangar Police Station. The cases were handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further investigation.

The RBPF said it always cooperates with other agencies in combatting and preventing crime and cross-border smuggling.

The RBPF also seeks public cooperation in combating smuggling by alerting authorities with relevant information.
