Telco receives royal surprise visit

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam made an unscheduled visit to Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) yesterday.

Greeting His Majesty at UNN Sumbiling Telephone-House in the capital were UNN Chief Executive Officer Dr Steffen Oehler and Vice President for Delivery, Field, Rollout and Power Dayangku Hajah Martini binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman.

The monarch toured the facilities and concluded the visit with a titah touching on the welfare of officers and staff as well as UNN’s management and administration issues.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah and Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos were also present.

UNN is the integrated national telecommunications operator in the Sultanate providing full scope of fixed and mobile services on national level and utilising international assets to provide connectivity services across Asia.

It consolidated the country’s telecommunication network assets into a single and resilient network, investing in modern technology, data centre, efficient operation, cybersecurity, knowledge and capacity building in the organisation.
