Teenage fan of K-pop attacked and seriously hurt in Mexico

(ANN/KOREA HERALD) – K-pop fan communities in Mexico are uniting for a school violence victim, calling for justice for a 13-year-old girl who reportedly faced intense bullying from peers due to her passion for K-pop.

As per various reports from Mexico, the teenager named Fatima Maite sustained a broken pelvis after falling from the third floor of a building at her school in Mexico City on February 13. Reports suggest that the fall resulted from school bullies, with some sources claiming that she was pushed off the building by them, while others state she was pressured into jumping.

A video circulating on social media depicts a girl dangling from a building’s balcony while another girl pushes her off, though it has not yet been officially verified that the victim is Maite.

The victim’s father alleged that the school overlooked his daughter’s earlier complaints regarding violence directed at her, which contributed to the escalation that caused her injury. He alleged that his daughter was pushed from the building and that at least three individuals took part in the assault.

The Mexican police are investigating the situation and have verified that the father has formally filed the incident as an instance of school violence.

The South Korean Embassy in Mexico participated in the current social media campaign calling for justice regarding the harassment and violence inflicted on Fatima.

“We join in condemning the attacks, harassment and school #Bullying that Fatima suffered because of her preference for #KPop #Hallyu #KoreanCulture,” it posted in Spanish on its official X account.

K-pop fans in Mexico are denouncing the violence using the hashtag “#JusticeForFatima.” Certain K-pop fan groups, including BTS Army, pledged to engage in efforts against bullying and collect donations for the victim’s family.
