One-hundred and seventy-six recipients comprising orphans, as well as families and senior citizens received donations on Tuesday in a sungkai event held at the V-Plaza Hotel’s grand ballroom to mark the holy month of Ramadhan and the 15th anniversary of Suasana Mentari Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (SMES).
Organised by Radio Television Brunei (RTB) and SMES, the event was attended by Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad as the guest of honour. He was accompanied by Legislative Council members and Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman and Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann.
They were welcomed by Acting Director of RTB Haji Azman bin Haji Abdul Rahim, Managing Director of SMES Yusof bin Haji Othman, and Chief Executive Officer of SMES Kelvin Kong.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, Tahlil and Doa Arwah led by Haji Asmalee bin Haji Saidon.
It was followed by the handover of donations by Haji Azman, Yusof and Kelvin.
The event also saw the guests and recipients breaking fast.
According to an SMES representative, together with RTB, they have invited 103 orphans, 63 families in need, and 10 senior citizens from across the district.
The ceremony is the final activity under Jalinan Kasih project. Since its launch in 2009, the project has reached out and helped needy families in all four districts.
