Following the announcement of a new system integrating general and religious education, the Bulletin asked members of the public on their views yesterday.
Zura, a primary school teacher, said she expressed hope that parents could adjust to the new schooling hours.
Under the new system, pre-school to primary 3 students will see their schooling hours changed to 7.30am to noon and 1.30pm to 3pm.
She added, “It will be a game changer for the students and the integration involving the lower religious primary schools will not affect students sitting for big exams.”
Rizal, a parent of a Primary 6 student at a religious school, noted that the change came after a titah from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to revise the education system.
“The monarch’s call for revision came after hearing of woes from some parents,” Rizal said.
Zara, a Primary 6 student at a religious school, said, “It would be easier for parents making multiple trips in and out of work to bring their children home and get ready for the second leg in the afternoon.
“It has been quite a journey for us before the change,” the 14-year-old added. – Fadley Faisal
