Brunei Darussalam is currently in the transition period between monsoon seasons which is expected to last until the end of November, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department said in a statement yesterday.
“During this period, local wind effects play an important role in governing our daily weather,” said the department.
The department forecasted active weather conditions that will last until early Sunday morning, with occasional heavy thundershowers affecting many areas of the country, especially in the afternoon and night-time.
This is due to the combination of a low-pressure system over the region and local wind-effects leading to more moist atmospheric conditions, enhancing the development of rain clouds, said the department.
“Wind gust may reach up to 45kph during or near heavy thundershowers,” said the department.
“Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally slight, below one metre,” it added.
PRECAUTIONARY ACTIONS
The department advised the public to take precautionary actions in light of the forecasted weather conditions.
“There is high risk of flash floods, especially at low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as near river banks during continuous heavy rain and high tide,” said the department, adding that there is a risk of landslides and fallen trees during heavy showers and gusty conditions.
It advised the public, road users and fishermen to keep up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisories and warnings.
