Taiwan is promoting eco-friendly travel and showcasing its Muslim-friendly environment to Brunei visitors at the Sabre Brunei Travel Fair 2024 at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

The Tourism Authority of Taiwan’s Kuala Lumpur Office, represented by Abe Chou, highlighted the Alishan Forest Railway in Chiayi and the stunning Tanya Shen Green Bikeway in Taichung as unique biking and rail travelling experiences for Brunei travellers.

Chou said Taiwan is committed to becoming a halal hub and a destination of choice for Muslim visitors by actively improving its facilities to cater to Muslim travellers’ needs.

Taiwan recorded 3,571 Brunei tourist arrivals in 2023. From January to June this year, Brunei tourist arrivals increased by 40.86 per cent, with 16.71 per cent for leisure and holiday purposes, compared to the same period in 2023. Taiwan has a Muslim population of 300,000 people, supported by three organisations – the Chinese Muslim Association, the Taiwan Halal Center and the Islamic Association of Taiwan. There are some 300 halal restaurants and many convenience stores selling halal food. October to December and January to March are the popular seasons due to winter and cherry blossoms, while summer is ideal for beach vacations.

Chou noted that younger Muslim visitors prefer destinations offering a complete experience including shopping, food, theme parks, outdoor activities and scenic views. – Azlan Othman
