Tag rugby tournament concludes

The Tag Rugby World Cup Festival hosted at Jerudong International School (JIS) saw Sports School’s Dominators crowned champions of the U18 boys category, while Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School’s Spartans clinched the U15 boys category title last Sunday.

JIS Hot Minions bagged the U15 girls category while the school’s Sizzle Men won the U13 boys category.

Meanwhile, JIS The A Team won the U11 boys category and Honey Bees won the U11 girls category.

The event was held in conjunction with the upcoming Rugby World Cup to be held in France in September.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud attended as guest of honour. Also in attendance were French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Bernard Regnauld-Fabre with President of Asia Rugby Qais Al Dhalai.

The event was sponsored by TotalEnergies with the support of the French Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and the Brunei Rugby Football Union (BRFU).

The event was also part of TotalEnergies Brunei’s corporate social responsibilities and commitment towards youth and inclusivity under their Youth in Action programme.

Selected players will be chosen to become youth ambassadors who will be representatives and spokespersons representing TotalEnergies.

Almost 200 students from different schools across the nation participated in the tournament.

The BRFU hopes that with more support, rugby can be developed further by organising more tournaments for all age groups throughout the Sultanate as a mission to achieve Brunei Vision 2035. – James Kon
