Table tennis championship registration open until July 18

Registration for the Brunei Table Tennis Open Championship 2024 is now open, the Belait District Table Tennis Association announced yesterday.

“We are opening the registration for all table tennis players, not just in the Belait District but across the nation, to compete in the tournament,” said Belait District Table Tennis Association president Raymond Lee during a press meeting yesterday.

He added that the table tennis players will compete in four categories.

“This includes Men’s Single (Open), Women’s Single (Open), Boys’ Single, (Under Age 18), and Girls’ Single (Under Age 18),” he said. The participants will climb the ranks in the round robin heat stage to qualify for the bracket stages to be crowned champions within their  categories.

“The heat stages will be held on August 3, 4, 10, and 11, with the finals slated to be held on August 25, all of which will be held at the Mumong Sports Complex.”

Organised by the association in conjunction with the 78th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the registration will close on July 18 at 4pm.

Registration forms as well as additional information on the competition can be obtained through the committee members.

“The completed registration forms can be submitted to Sen Foon Forwarding Agent or KK Chan Goldsmith at No 17, Jalan Pretty, Kuala Belait. We will host a draw to determine which players will compete during the first round robin on July 19.”

Lee hopes that the competition will draw table tennis players from across the Sultanate to hone their skills, while promoting the sport in the district and nation. – Daniel Lim
